2011 Longhorn World Championship (LWC) Results
J.R. Bonanza participated in the 2011 Longhorn World Championship in Mesquite Texas, the premier horn competition event in our industry. 57 of the breeds most elite bulls and breeding programs were represented. We are pleased to announce that he placed Second in his Division (beaten by an older bull) in all three categories (Tip to Tip, Total Horn and Composite Horn). J.R. Bonanza measured 75" TTT, 89 7/8" Total and 195 1/4 Composite. Pretty good for a three and one half year old bull. Of the 57 bulls entered, only 11 had longer horns (TTT) and ALL 11 were older than J.R. Bonanza (most by several years!). See the complete LWC results.

We are pleased to announce the purchase of J.R. Bonanza, a black and white KC Just Respect son (Hunt's Demand Respect) out of J.R. Bobbi (Gunman breeding). J.R. Bonanza measured 70 3/8" at only 31 months. He has heavy bases and upswept horns. We are very excited to add these breed leading genetics to our heavily influenced J.R. Seman herd. The Houston Area Texas Longhorn Association (HATLA) was formed as an affiliate to the International Texas Longhorn Association (ITLA). The new affiliate elected Larry Lonero as President of the new organization. Plans are already underway to participate in the 2011 Houston Livestock Show. There is a ranch tour scheduled for April 2011 at the ranch of Bill and Corena Henderson (Blubonnett time in Washington County!). All breeders of any association are invited to join the HATLA. It was an honor and a privilege to be asked to judge the 2009 International Texas Longhorn Association Championship Show in Glen Rose, Texas. There were cattle and participants from all across the country and the quality of cattle was quite high. Congratulations to all of those that participated, especially those that were Class Winners and Champions. I always enjoy the opportunity to judge shows and look forward to attending more shows across the country in 2010. |

A photo of J.R. Seman was selected to be used on the cover of a book being published by Harper-Collins Publishing, New York, NY. The book, BEEF, is being published both domestically and internationally. Harper-Collins selected the photo taken by Larry Lonero owner of the Bar L Cattle Company out of hundreds considered. "It was an honor to have my photo selected," said Lonero. "And an honor for J.R. Seman. It will be another rememberance of our great bull."

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Premier Herd Sire J.R. Seman this past weekend. He passed from unknown causes at the ranch of Karen and Agee Spidle, our partners in ownership. J.R. Seman was seen Friday evening with "his girls" but found Monday morning deceased. The veterinarian said there were no outward signs of disease or injury. J. R. Seman was 12 years old. His legacy will live on with the hundreds of offspring he has produced...
